The Belarus flag was officially adopted on May 16, 1995. The republic of Belarus flag comprises of two horizontal stripes. Among the two stripes, the upper stripe of the Belarus flag is red in color, and the lower stripe of the Belarus flag is green in color. This current flag of Belarus is a modified version of the 1951 flags of Belarus . The dominant red and green colors of the Belarus flag were used when it was a republic of the former Soviet Union. This flag has an ornamental pattern leveled at the hoist. The woven fabric adornment on the left side of the Belarus flag uses traditional Belarusian red and white colors.
