The national flag of Denmark is called Dannebrog . The use of this flag is very old and the dates can go back to 14 th century making it the most ancient state flag . Dannebrog's origin is surrounded with a number of interesting myths, legends and theories. The flag of Denmark has a red background on which there is a Scandinavian white cross whose vertical portion is near the hoisting part of the flag. The ratio of the white cross to its red background is vertically 3:1:3 and horizontally 3:1:4:5. There are no hard and fast rules regarding the use of the flag.
