French Polynesia Flag flagsoftheworld
Originally called the Tahiti islands this group of islands came to be known as French Polynesia after it came under French possession. As such the official flag of the islands was the French tricolor , but of late after gaining an autonomous status the country has adopted a flag of its own but rules say that along with this flag the tricolor also needs to be hoisted.

The autonomous flag of French Polynesia has a canoe sailing under the brilliance of a golden sun against the backdrop of a red and white stripes. The canoe is encircled by a white circle which supposedly represents French Polynesia and is being rowed by a crew comprising of 5 boatmen each of represents the 5 islands chains of Austral, Gambier, Marquesas, Society and Tuamotu respectively.
