MacAir Airlines
Our History

MacAir Airlines is truly a success story of pioneering spirit in outback Queensland. The company commenced its operations in 1992 as a charter operation on McKinlay Station in North West Queensland. Since its inception, MacAir Airlines has grown to become a major player in Australia's regional aviation network and plays an important role in providing transport to both passengers and freight throughout regional Queensland.

MacAir Airlines still salutes it's heritage by basing its operations in the major regional and economic centre of Townsville. The company's passengers are served by a dedicated group of aviation professionals based in Townsville, Cairns, Mt Isa and Brisbane.

1998 was a watershed year for MacAir Airlines. The growth of the mining industry and its fly-in fly out operations led to the expansion of the carrier and the introduction of passenger services in North Queensland. The year 2000 saw further expansion for the MacAir when it merged with passenger airline Transtate Airlines and incorporated their Gulf of Carpentaria services under the MacAir banner.
Today
MacAir is now QueenslandÌs largest privately own regional airline, employing over 200 professionals directly, and many more indirectly earning their living from MacAir Airlines. MacAir is committed to, where possible, employing and training local residents and in addition to this has a strong ÏbuyÓ local focus to ensure as much revenue is reinvested back into the local communities.

MacAir currently services almost 30 destinations in its network, with the link between Townsville and Mt Isa being the busiest. This route is vital to the mining support infrastructure that has built up on this lucrative corridor and sees the company's newest addition, the ATR 42-500 servicingthis two hour sector.

The MacAir gulf route has also benefited from MacAir's expansion, with these destination now being serviced bythe modern SAAB 340B aircraft which receivesfull cabin service from an on board flight attendant .

In 2007 MacAirjoined the ranks of the major airline operators in Australia after the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) granted it a High Capacity Air Operators Certificate. The High Capacity AOC enables MacAir to operate any size aircraft and paves the way for MacAirÌs ongoing expansion.
MacAir Airlines is a Qantas commercial partner. As such, the airline enjoys worldwide distribution through the Qantas reservation system. This agreement between the two carriers gives passengers the ability to choose several options for booking tickets along with the ability to accrue and utilise frequent flyer points on a number of services.
