Work in connection with the Baltic Sea and immigrants brings state awards for the dissemination of information
The Ministry of Education has granted state awards for the dissemination of information valued at ƒ10,000 to eight private persons or groups in recognition of their achievements in the field. A life-work award was granted to Juha Nurminen, who has done substantial work as a producer of information about the history, culture and environmental condition of the Baltic Sea and its coastal areas.

In the granting of awards this year, the desire was to take into account social change in a more multicultural way. Recipients of the award included the City of HelsinkiÌs International Cultural Centre Caisa, in recognition of its production of a diverse range of information both for and from the immigrant population. The website for immigrants, www.infopankki.fi , which is maintained by Caisa and its partners, has been of special significance as an information channel. This site provides immigrants with basic information in 15 languages, concerning social activities and opportunities in Finland.
