The Ministry of Education and Research in brief

The work of the Ministry of Education and Research covers two policy areas: education policy and research policy. The Minister for Education, and the head of the Ministry is Jan Bjàrklund. The Minister for Higher Education and Research, Lars Leijonborg, is responsible for research.

The Ministry of Education and Research is responsible for issues concerning child care, preschool classes, compulsory and equivalent types of school, independent schools, school-age child care, upper secondary school, local authority adult education, advanced vocational education, supplementary educational programmes, popular adult education, the university and higher education system, research, financial support to students and student welfare issues.
Upper Secondary School Inquiry's proposal for a new upper secondary school

The Upper Secondary School Inquiry has submitted its proposal for a new upper secondary school to Minister for Education Jan Bjàrklund. The main task in the remit was to propose a new structure for upper secondary school; vocational programmes have been given particular emphasis in the Inquiry.
