The flag of Netherlands Antilles that currently represents the island nation of Netherlands Antilles was adopted on January 1, 1986. Netherlands Antilles Flag however dates back to 1959 when it was first adopted. The Netherlands Antilles Flag consists of a white base. The center of the flag has a red stripe that is arranged vertically with an equal sized blue strip placed horizontally across the top of the red strip. The blue strip bears five stars arranged in an oval pattern. The five stars in the flag of Netherlands Antilles represent the five main islands of the Antilles namely Bonaire, Curacao, Saba, St. Eustatius and St. Maarten. The color combination of white, red and blue used on the flag refer to the Dutch flag.
