O2 Ireland is a leading provider of mobile services, offering communications solutions to 1.6 million customers in Ireland. We have offices in Dublin, Cork and Galway as well as a Customer Care Centre in Limerick and a total workforce of over 1,700 employees. In 2006, O2 Ireland was named the best company to work for in Ireland and one of the 10 best companies to work for in Europe.

Until recently O2 Ireland was a wholly owned subsidiary of O2 plc. On March 7th 2006, O2 plc delisted from the London Stock Exchange, on completion of a corporate take-over of O2 by Telef€nica S.A. O2 is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Telef€nica S.A., comprising mobile network operators in the UK and Ireland, along with integrated fixed/mobile businesses in Germany, the Czech Republic (Telef€nica O2 Czech Republic) and the Isle of Man (Manx Telecom). It also owns 50% of the Tesco Mobile and Tchibo Mobilfunk joint venture businesses in the UK and Germany respectively.

As part of an enlarged company, O2 will build on its track record of operational delivery, the strength of its brand, and the momentum it has established in all its markets. O2 and Telef€nica bring together two strong, successful, growth-orientated companies, creating a strong pan-European/global telecoms player. The combined entity is second largest global wireless operator outside of China, in terms of active subscribers with more than 116 million mobile customers. In addition, the combined group is also the world's second most valuable telecom operator with an enterprise value of €120 billion.
Our History

O2 Ireland started life as a joint venture between the Esat Telecom Group and Telenor, and was originally known as Esat Digifone. In 1997, it became the second company to be awarded a GSM licence in Ireland. In 2000 BT acquired Esat Telecom and later demerged the mobile unit Esat Digifone from the fixed line system which is now called BT Ireland. For a brief period the company was simply called Digifone, but following the spin off of mmO2 from BT, the company was rebranded O2 Ireland.
Investment in the O2 Network

Since 1997, O2 has built a national asset - the O2 network - which is a communications infrastructure that plays a vital part in making Ireland work and is considered to be one of the best mobile networks in the world with an ongoing investment of ƒ200 million per annum. As part of our focus on maintaining a superior quality network we are committed to:

* Ensuring that our customers receive the best possible service and network quality
* Continued investment in the network ensuring ongoing and consistent improvements to O2 products and services
* Reducing further the costs of using mobile technology over our network
* Consistency of service 24/7, 365 days a year

Our Culture and People

A major key to our success has been the dedication and enthusiasm of our management team and staff. This dedication stems from an open culture that encourages full participation in decision making and the implementation of our strategies.

At O2, our success is a direct result of the kind of people who are part of the business and who are dedicated to being the best and always keeping the needs of our customers in mind, no matter what part of the business they work in. We encourage everyone to live the O2 values of Bold, Open, Clear and Trusted and we have made a significant investment in providing the necessary tools and resources to develop our workforce, thereby ensuring that we are best positioned to meet the goals and objectives of the organisation.

In 2006, O2 Ireland was named the best company to work for in Ireland and one of the 10 best companies to work for in Europe. In Ireland, the annual Best Companies Awards recognise great places to work as those where employees trust the people they work for, have pride in what they do and enjoy the people they work with.

Qualifying companies were assessed by an employee survey and a corporate culture questionnaire which looked at the levels of trust, credibility, respect, fairness, pride and camaraderie. O2 scored highly in the areas of relationships between employees and management, the relationships between employees and their jobs and also the level of camaraderie between employees.
