The current Sri Lankan flag was formally acquired on 7 th September in the year of 1978. The flag of Sri Lanka comprises with a yellow or orange background. Two perpendicular green and orange strips with equal size are depicted on the left hand side. A rectangular segment tinged with crimson red is there on the right hand side of the flag, which incorporates a yellow vertical lion holding an upright weapon along with yellow colored ÏpipulÓ leaves, one in every angle. The green and orange strips signify marginal Muslims as well as the minority Tamil Hindus of Sri Lake. The color of Yellow and Pipul leaves are Buddhist pious emblems to epitomize empathy, love and self-control. The golden lion is an early sign of the community whereas sword is a representation of power.
