The First Post
The First Post
What are we?
The First Post is a free and independent daily online news magazine – a place to find out what the news means, a place to read about the issues of the day in short, sharp, informative articles. Most articles are presented on single pages which eliminate the need to scroll. And, as you will discover, it is a very easy site to find your way around.

When do we publish?
Part of the content changes every day. Most of the content changes in the course of a week. At 8am each day we publish new features and opinion articles. At 9am, we post the latest editions of NEWSDESK, a quick guide to the latest British and international news and the press coverage of it, PEOPLE, tales of the good, the bad and the beautiful, and THE SPORTS PAGES, a digest of the best British sports coverage. By 11am we publish our OPINION DIGEST, the best comment and opinion from the British media. We publish and update other material throughout the day.

What do we publish?
We publish exclusively commissioned articles as well as some content from The Week and other of our sister publications. If you would like to re-print a story, please email syndication@thefirstpost.co.uk. Many of our authors frequently appear on radio and television; they can be reached via enquiries@thefirstpost.co.uk.

Why are we special?
Many news-based sites are merely the by-product of newspapers or broadcasting organisations; some are nothing more than a series of links to articles on other sites. The First Post is independent and exclusively online; we commission all our articles.

Our politics
Our political OPINION has been described as 'ill-defined' and even 'all over the place'. This is what we want to hear. A scroll through our
A-Z OF CONTRIBUTORS will show you the vast range of writers whom you can read here. They cover many different areas of expertise, live in many countries and occupy many different positions on the political spectrum, but they have in common an ability to provoke thoughtful debate.
How we can help you
The First Post is designed to save your time by keeping you up to date with current affairs in as few words as possible. The British Sunday press, for instance, has much to offer – several pounds each week – but most of it can be thrown away unread, which indeed it is. On The First Post you can read our digest of THE SUNDAY PAPERS and find out the essentials within minutes. The same is true of THE SPORTS PAGES and NEWSDESK.

How we can entertain you
The First Post has a growing popular appeal as a desktop entertainment venue. The Cinema in our multimedia VIDEO section not only has a rich and ever-expanding collection of movie trailers, but also some of the best modern classics of those quirky web-inspired genres: the hyper-short movie and the viral ad. We pick the best material from the net and present it for you to enjoy at your desk or in your home.

Our readership
We are not only read by hundreds of thousands around the world but have a steadily growing regular readership which, since going online in August 2005, rivals or exceeds that of any equivalent publications.

How do you pay to see the site?
You don't.

Who publishes The First Post?
The First Post is owned by First Post News Group Limited, a subsidiary of Dennis Publishing Ltd.
