The national flag of Uganda was adopted on 9 th October, 1962. The Uganda Flag consists of six horizontal stripes of black, yellow, and red in consecutive patterns. The top strip is black in color and the bottom strip is red in color. In the center of the Uganda flag, sharing the space of the red and black bands is Uganda's national symbol which is a Balearic Crested Crane. The crane is hoisted on a white disc. The red color of the Uganda flag stands for the brotherhood of man. Black is symbolic of the people of Africa. The yellow bands stand for the vitality and life-sustaining powers of the sun.
