Vodacom Tanzania
Vodacom Tanzania Ltd is a subsidiary company of Vodacom (Pty) Ltd based in South Africa. Vodacom (Pty) Ltd owns a majority share portion of 65%, the remaining 35% is owned by Tanzanian shareholders.

In 1999 Vodacom (Pty) Ltd. won a bid to operate a GSM cellular network in Tanzania and formed the subsidiary company Vodacom Tanzania Limited.

By August 2000, Vodacom (T) Ltd completed its state of the art GSM infrastructure and went live on August 14, 2000. On August 15, 2000 Vodacom (T) Ltd officially started its commercial operations. Within the first four months of operations 50,000 subscribers were connected to its network.On February 14, 2002 Vodacom (T) Limited registered the 200,000th customer. On September 24, 2002, Vodacom Tanzania Limited registered the 300,000th customer. Vodacom further connected its 1,000,000th (one millionth) customer in 2004 and its 2 millionth customer in March 2006.
On January 8, 2007, Vodacom (T) Ltd connected its 3 millionth customer and became the first cellular network in Tanzania to register such a gigantic milestone in the Tanzania's cellular market.
On March 12, 2008, Vodacom Tanzania registered its 4 millionth customer and continued to be the first cellular network in Tanzania to register such a phenomenon milestone in the history of Tanzania's cellualr market. Vodacom Tanzania continues to offer an exceptional quality at affordable rates, with a view of empowering millions of Tanzanians with meaningful access to telecommunications and making sure that all Tanzanians are connected to the Vodacom network.
