Technology Division
Manager of Resources – Doha - Ref: DOH/MR
This is a senior management position - you will be responsible for effective management of our internal resources across the four global broadcast centres. Emphasis will be given to setting up strong managing, logging and reporting of resource usage for both technical and human resources ensuring that we maximise internal efficiencies without compromising production values or output. You will have had senior production experience in an international news environment; a track record in developing strategic direction and the project management experience to implement new strategy, plus extensive knowledge of programme and studio production processes. Knowledge of ScheduAll is a major advantage.
Manager of Workflow – Doha - Ref: DOH/WR
This is a senior management position - you will provide technical and operational input on workflow across the four global broadcast centres and be a key representative of the Operations Department with other departments. With an understanding of the technologies and workflows of the entire Al Jazeera Network you will be responsible for optimising existing intra-site workflows at all Broadcast Centres and inter-site workflows between Centres and key bureau. In liaison with key Managers, you will evolve a strategy and 'roadmap' for future global workflow development to maintain and enhance AJE's competitive advantage. You will specify, initiate and oversee Project work to enable global workflow development, ensuring delivery of key targets on time and within budget.
MEDIA MANAGEMENT UNIT - Doha - Ref: DOH/MMU
We require skilled technical operators to work within our Media Management unit at Al Jazeera English’s headquarters in Doha, Qatar.
We are looking to expand and diversify our current team of operators and you will be working across several areas within the department. We expect you to already be an expert in one of these disciplines and ready to learn others.
Ingest - You will be at the heart of the acquisition operation as it supplies content to the news and programming operations. You’ll know software based ingest applications, routing and VTR operations.
Media Management - You will be responsible for managing the media traffic in Doha and between our other three broadcast centres, ensuring that content is provided to all elements of production. You will be managing the online and nearline content on a day to day basis. Understanding of server platforms, applications and terminology is desirable.
Archive – You will be expected to provide good service to the production requirements of the new and programming departments. You ideally will have experience of logging, tracking and cataloguing of digital and tape assets.
NEWS OPERATIONS - Doha - Ref: DOH/NO
Require highly skilled and motivated individuals to fill the following roles within the technical newsgathering department.
Head of Facilities – You will be a user friendly hands on manager familiar with satellite and production facilities internationally. Managing a team of 15 people you will be responsible for the day to day rostering, budgetary control of deployments and reconciliation of costs. Providing reports of internal and external resources to management to enhance efficiencies across the network. ScheduAll experience required.
Head of Deployment – Supervisory role/section head within News Operations, responsible for the day to day management of SNG Engineers and associated equipment. You will have experience in setting up major remote operations ensuring the best technical use is made of both internal and external resources. The role requires a manager with an in depth technical background in both traditional satellite delivery and OB production along with a thorough understanding of news production values and styles. Also required is a comprehensive understanding of the demands of a live 24 hour news environment with the experience to deploy personnel into hostile and dangerous environments including war-zones. . A strong understanding of new technology is required to lead the deployment department forward advancements.
Senior MCR Engineer – You will be able to manage and coordinate the technical acquisition of live news via satellite fibre, FTP and IP streaming. Actively managing traffic on the AJE fibre network you will ensure the operational stability fo both programme and news delivery. Must have experience of leading an MCR team and reporting and follow up of technical faults of both internal and external resources. Understanding of server platforms, applications and terminology is desirable while Experience of operating HD and Prisma nodes is essential.
Senior ENG Camera Person - The applicant will be an experienced multi-skilled camera/edit operator with a minimum 5 years experience in newsgathering, in hostile environments, and proven ability using the latest camera and non linear edit equipment. Experience in HD Cameras, non linear edit and BGAN/S&F equipment is essential.
Senior Satellite Coordinator – You will be a highly skilled member of the day of air satellite team booking our primary routes for newsgathering. You will manage arrangements for Ad-hoc SNG projects and live transmissions, ensuring good communication with both producers and crews on the ground as well as our MCR and news desk. Experience with ScheduAll is an advantage.
NEWS OPERATIONS - Washington, DC - DC/OPS
Senior Satellite Coordinator – You will be a highly skilled member of the day of air satellite team booking our primary routes for newsgathering. You will manage arrangements for Ad-hoc SNG projects and live transmissions, ensuring good communication with both producers and crews on the ground as well as our MCR and news desk. Experience with ScheduAll is an advantage.

NEWS OPERATIONS - London, UK - LDN/OPS
Supervisor MCR – You will be in the supervisory position in our busy MCR in London. Able to manage and coordinate the technical acquisition of live news via satellite fibre, FTP and IP streaming you will be the main technical contact for the facility. Must have experience of supervising an MCR and ingest team and ability to report and follow up of technical faults both internal and external resources. Understanding of server platforms, applications and terminology is desirable while experience of operating HD and nodes is essential.
STUDIO OPERATIONS - Doha - DOH/SO
Head of Sound - Supervisory role/section head within Studio Operations, responsible for the day to day management of the sound department and associated equipment. Extensive experience in a live international 24/7 studio environment working with both programme and news is essential and OB and ENG sound would be an advantage. A strong understanding of new technology is required to lead the sound department forward in audio advancements.
Technical Director/Vision Mixer - We are seeking a very experienced Technical Director / vision mixer to provide direction for a multi camera network in a fast paced live television environment. Knowledge of the grass valley Kalypso video production center is essential. A leader who will be responsible for directing daily newscasts and current affairs programming with experience in remote transmissions and graphic effects and managing the live control room environment. Experience in OB and programmes is an advantage.
For all of these posts a minimum of 5 years technical broadcast experience is required with at least 2 years in non-linear environment.
Excellent spoken and written English is essential.
