Tariff and Customs Information
Tariff Duties
Algerian imports are subject to payment of customs duties in the following increments: Duty Free, 5 percent, 15 percent, or 30 percent. The most common is 30 percent.

Value Added Tax
A value-added tax (VAT) is levied on imports in the following increments: Tax Free, 7 percent, or 17 percent. The most common is 17 percent.
Specific Additional Tax
Certain imports are subject to another import tax, the Specific Additional Tax (SAT) [in French, Taxe Specifique Additionnelle (TSA)], which ranges from 20 percent to 110 percent.
The VAT is based on the purchase price of the imports plus customs duties whereas the SAT is only based on the transaction value of the goods. The SAT applies mainly to luxury goods.
Customs Fees
A customs user fee of 4 percent and a customs formalities charge of 2% will also be levied on goods entering Algeria. These fees are applied on the CIF value.
Other Commodity-Specific Taxes
a petroleum products tax (PPT)
a slaughter tax for the meat of various animals
consumption duties fixed on wine and spirits, perfumes and other toiletries containing alcohol, and pre-shave, shaving, and after-shave prepartations.
Specific duties on batteries, reception apparatus for television, radio-broadcast receivers, aerials, demodular or decoder devices.
Specific guarantee and assay duties on articles of gold, silver, and platinum

Customs Regulations
Customs authorities enforce strict regulations concerning temporary import or export of items such as: firearms, ammunition, or other weapons; pornography or seditious literature; and habit-forming or hallucinatory drugs.
