Angola Telecom
History
Angola Telecom is a Public Company, established by Decree no 10/92, dated 6 March 1992, as result of the merger of two former parastatals, enatel and eptel.
EPTEL (Empresa P?blica de Telecomunica¡?es) was established by Decree no 95/76, dated 23 December 1976, as result of the acquisition by the State of the Portuguese company R?dio Marconi, which operated the international traffic to and from Angola.
EPTEL started its activities in 1977 as a public operator of international telecommunications while the then Directorate of Post and Telecommunications (Direc¡Ño dos Servi¡os de Correios e Telecomunica¡?es) continued to operate the domestic services.
ENATEL (Empresa Nacional de Telecomunica¡?es), was established by Decree no 17/80 on 13 February 1980, by separation from the previously mentioned Directorate of Post and Telecommunications, which also led to the establishment of the Angola Post Office.
Therefore, as from 1980 until the creation of Angola Telecom, telecommunications in Angola was the responsibility of two state-owned operators; eptel, responsible for international communications and enatel, for domestic communications.
