The Australia Flag came into being on 1st January, 1901, the year when Australian States were incorporated into Commonwealth of Australia. The Australian Flag has a blue background with the Union Jack at the top left. The Commonwealth Star, which is a white six-pointed star, is placed at the lower end of the Union Jack. On the right side of the blue background the Australia Flag picture has five smaller stars out of which one star is five-pointed and the rest range up to nine points. The Union Jack on the Australian Flag represents the English colonial past of Australia.
