CTM Macau
Prior to 1981, residents in Macau had to wait many months simply to have a telephone connected. Direct dialing was not an option and a telephone call to nearby Hong Kong was a lengthy procedure and had to be placed through an operator.

It was in 1981 the Government of the day realized something needed to be done and done quickly.

An agreement was reached with Cable and Wireless plc, already acknowledged as a world force in telecommunications. A new company, Companhia de Telecomunica踥es de Macau S.A.R.L., now referred to simply as CTM, was formed in October that year, charged with the task of improving telecommunications as quickly as possible. The agreement covered the installation and operation of all public telecommunications services in Macau and it was to last 20 years.

Macau's only full telecom service provider, CTM is a world-class communications company that continues to play a major role in the ongoing development of Macau's infrastructure. With a solid financial base and an enviable track record for technical achievement, CTM offers both first class products and services and outstanding career opportunities for the best and brightest in Macau.

CTM's vision for the future is to further strengthen its position as Macau's telecommunications provider of choice by continually expanding its already impressive technological capabilities. As competition within the market sector becomes ever more intense, CTM will continue to invest heavily in improving both network quality and customer service levels.

CTM is a joint venture between Cable and Wireless PLC (51%), Portugal Telecom International (28%), CITIC Pacific (20%) and the Macau SAR Government (1%).
