Cable & Wireless Turks and Caicos Islands
Cable & Wireless will celebrate 110 years in the Turks & Caicos Islands on January 31, 2008. During that time, the company has made significant investments in the infrastructure and the social fibre of the nation.

How it got started
Cable & Wireless' involvement in the Turks & Caicos Islands began in 1897 with the laying of the first submarine telegraph cable linking London, Canada and the West Indies. Grand Turk was chosen as a site for a land-based, cable linking station, because it was then a dependency of Jamaica and a convenient "half-way" point between Bermuda and Jamaica. The link to Bermuda commenced operations on 31 January, 1898, to be followed by the Jamaican service a year later, giving the West Indies its first all-British connection to London.
Serving the Turks & Caicos Islands since January 31, 1898, Cable & Wireless has played an integral role in revolutionizing communication in this country. The company laid the transatlantic cable in 1898 to the delivery of High Speed Internet Service; Cable & Wireless is committed to being the provider of choice.
