Between Caucasus and Europe

Caucaz.com is a Tbilisi-based weekly online magazine. This independent media was created in October 2004 by European and South-Caucasian journalists, thus breathing life into the first European media covering the South Caucasus. The South Caucasus editors are based in Tbilisi, with correspondents in Yerevan and Baku. European editors are based in both Paris and Brussels.

Every Monday, Caucaz.com publishes articles, investigative reports and analysis of the news and main issues in the South Caucasus: democratisation process, civil society, conflicts, minorities, domestic, regional and foreign policy, European Union's New Neighborhood Strategy, etc.

From Caspian to Black Sea

The journalists in the South Caucasian and European teams at Caucaz.com not only explore current affairs, news and events in the three countries making up the South Caucasus (Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia), but also look at the other countries and regions to which the South Caucasus is inextricably linked (North Caucasus, Iran, Turkey and Central Asia).

In line with its policy of ensuring that information on the South Caucasus reaches as wide an audience as possible, the editorial team at Caucaz.com is pleased to be able to offer its readers articles and reports in three different languages: German, English and French.

The French version of Caucaz.com is published online every Monday, with the German and English versions to follow on Thursday.

Close to Brussels

Caucaz.com is aimed at decison-makers and politicians, economists and intellectuals in the South Caucasus and the European Union. The European spirit of this new media comes from its editorial policy. The choice was made to attach great importance to the New Neighbourhood Policy and to European involvement in the South Caucasus, and also to Caucasian expectations of Europe. This editorial policy has been vindicated by the European Union's growing desire to strengthen its commitment towards Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia, as expressed in June 2004.

Caucaz.com is quintessentially European in format and content. The South Caucasus is a region of great strategic importance, subject to international influence, and should benefit from this new media which conveys the European position on important regional themes. But overall, this media will support the still-cautious development and also comprehension of the dynamics that shape the Caucasus.

Thus, Caucaz.com is a media with two purposes:
- to become involved in democratic evolution and conflict resolution by dealing constructively and explicitly with the South Caucasus as a regional entity.
- to encourage the development of civil society by offering decompartmentalised information on the South Caucasus region, especially with regard to conflicts.
