The national flag of Chile comprises of two vertical stripes of red and white, with a blue square on the left-hand corner which consists of a five pointed white star. The white part of the Chile flag represents the snow covered Andes mountain range as Chile is a South American country. The red bang in the flag represents bloodshed which was caused during the acute and prolonged struggle for freedom in Chile. The white star is a symbol of honor and pride and the blue part signifies the clear blue sky. The first flag of Chile was adopted in 1817 when it achieved independence and the current one got its official status in 1912.
