Gabon Flag flagsoftheworld
Gabon Flag is a colorful portrayal of such vibrant colors like green, yellow and blue where the three colors are represented in horizontal stripes. The color green appears on top, in the middle is yellow followed by the blue stripe. The colors blue and green are said to represent the natural resources of forests and oceans in this African country and the yellow stripe signifies the equator which passes through this country. The golden yellow stripe is also a depiction of the sun which shines in abundance over this country.

Gabon was originally an overseas territory of France and its autonomous flag was adopted once the country gained liberation from French occupation. This happened on August 9, 1960 which was actually a week in advance of the expected independence. The present flag was originally designed in 1959 but then the French tricolor occupied a corner in the flag which was later removed after independence.
