On February 18, 1965 the Gambian flag was officially adopted. There are five horizontal stripes on the flag of Gambia . The Gambian flag has a red stripe on the top, blue in the middle and green stripe in the bottom intersected by thin white stripes of equal width. The red and the green stripes are of equal width. The red colored stripe stands for the sun shining on the Gambia River and the blue stripe portrays the Gambia River. The green color stands for the land, forests and agriculture and the white colored stripes symbolize the unity, peace and purity of the land.
