Greenland Flag flagsoftheworld
The flag of Greenland gained official status on June 21, 1985 but the people of Greenland had thought of adopting a national flag some 12 years ago in 1973 when a green, blue and white flag was being decided upon. Ultimately the flag was given a serious thought when Greenland was given home rule in 1978 by Denmark and Greenlander Thue Christiansen designed the national flag of Greenland.

The greenland flag features 2 equal horizontal bands of white with a red and white disk in the center. In the native language of Greenland the flag is called the Erfalasorput which stands for the words Ïour flagÓ. Today during official ceremonies both the native flag and the Danish flag are hoisted side by side. The red and white disk at the center of the flag also symbolizes the half-submerged sun on the horizon and its reflection of the sun rays on the sea.
