Lesotho Flag flagsoftheworld
The Lesotho Flag was officially adopted on January 20, 1987. This flag was adopted after a military coup which replaced the Basotho National party after 20 years of rule. The light brown traditional Basotho shield with an assegai (lance), knobkierie (club) and spear replaced the Basotho hat which was the earlier symbol on the Lesotho flag. The color scheme and design also changed from the previous one. The white triangular area is symbolic of peace while the blue shows the importance of rivers and rainfall. The green color of the Lesotho Flag stands for plenty and prosperity. The Lesotho Flag is based on their traditional motto of Khotso (Peace), Pula (Rain) and Nala (Prosperity).
