The Mauritania Flag was first officially adopted on 1 st of April in 1959. This flag has a green background. In the middle of the flag there is a golden crescent that is placed horizontally. The two points of the crescent is placed upward. Above the crescent in the middle of it there is a five pointed star in golden color . The ratio of the flag's width to its length is 2:3. The green and golden colors apart from being Pan-African colors, also represent Islam religion, traditionally. The golden color in Mauritania Flag also denoted the Sahara desert.
