Mercury
Letter from the editor
The Mercury has been an integral part of KwaZulu-Natal for 150 years, its success attributable to its deep understanding of the region.

The Mercury has long boasted a reputation for delivering quality, credibility and aspiration. What readers have come to expect is a compelling package of daily hard news, sports, entertainment, background and importantly for upmarket readers, solid and up-to-date coverage of what's happening in the financial world.

The newspaper has to constantly try to keep pace with a changing and growing market. In this respect, it always tries to remain appealing to an audience that is broadly upmarket, but non-racial in character. To ensure the newspaper is meeting its readers' needs, its efforts are subjected to a 5-point checklist:

are we UPMARKET?
are we satisfying the needs of DURBAN?
are we PEOPLE friendly?
are we producing MEMORABLE editorial content?
and lastly and perhaps most importantly, are we inspiring HOPE?
Our recipe in publishing is simple yet effective. Deliver the widest possible news and sport coverage reliably, credibly and comprehensively to enable readers to make informed opinions. The Mercury reader gets up each morning expecting to be briefed about the overnight happenings and developments that have taken place in the city, country and the globe.

Coverage in Business Report, which forms part of The Mercury package each day, means readers can make sound business decisions when they reach their offices. In addition, a weekly Network supplement keeps readers' local business interests alive while regular HighRoad features serve as inspirational models in KwaZulu-Natal's fast-expanding economy.

The Mercury delivers all the information readers need each morning - giving them a head start to the day.

Editor, The Mercury
