Limkokwing University of Creative Technology takes off in July

The Minister of Education and Training Dr. ÎMamphono Khaketla, says Limkokwing University of Creative Technology scheduled to start operating in July this year, will not only open access to higher education, but will also help Lesotho eradicate poverty and realize its vision 2020.
Making a statement in parliament on Tuesday 22 , April 2008, Dr. Khaketla indicated that the university will produce skilled Basotho men and women who can respond to the needs of the industry, people who can be job creators and not job seekers.
She added that this will ensure that higher education in Lesotho responds to the needs of the labour market and that it is indeed relevant to the needs of this country. Minister Khaketla revealed that 80% of academic LUCT staff will be Basotho and 90 % non-teaching staff will also be Basotho .
She added that the University will temporarily start working at the Lesotho Opportunities and Industrialisation Centre(LOIC) and is expected to admit 2000 students , half of whom will be sponsored by the National Manpower Development Secretariat.
The Linkokwing University of Creative Technology, will offer degree programmes that will include Creativity in Tourism and Hospitality, Fashion and Life style design, Architecture and Interior Design, Information Technology , Business and Globilisation and Communication and Media .

Quality education for all. "end exclusion now"

On Monday 21 April 2008, Lesotho joined other countries of the world to celebrate the international Education For All (EFA) week. The celebration took place in all the ten district. In Maseru, the week commenced with a roundtable discussion on quality education to end exclusion at the 'Manthabiseng National Convention Centre.
Officially opening the discussion, the principal secretary of the Ministry of Education of Education and Training Ms.Ntsebe Kokome indicated thata even though the ministry has done a lot to ensure that Basotho chlidren access primary education, there are those children who still do not attend school for a number of reasons.
" The meeting with NGO's is thus a step forward in trying to find a solution to this problem".
Among the achievements she cited as having been made by Lesotho towards attainment of EFA goals, is the introduction of Free Primary in 2000, award of busaries to orphaned and vulnerable children, Textbook rental scheme and construction of additional classrooms.
The president of campaign For Education Forum, Mr. Bale Malee indicated the meeting should be the beginning of a journey together to ensure that education as a human right is accessed by everybody and to ensure that it is of good quality.
The Non governmental Organisations invited included those of people with disability and teacher formations.
On Wednesday , a lesson on quality education to end exclusion was prepared in different schools around the country. The purpose was to influence all the people in decision making level to plegde on what they will do to ensure that education as a human right is accessed by everybody The lesson was conducted by students in some schools and in others by teachers with dissability .
