Montenegro Airlines
The history of the airline company Montenegro Airlines has been written year after year, day after day, each following day being one step closer to the goal, and that goal was clear Ò Montenegro needed its own air company.
Montenegro Airlines was founded on October 24, 1994. It was registered for regular domestic and international passenger traffic and charter traffic, as well as for the carriage of cargo and mail.
The First Aircraft
Established in a period of adverse political events in the country and in the environment, in a period of sanctions and economic embargo, the Company was not able to start creating a fleet immediately after its registration. The first aircraft of type Fokker 28Mk 4000 was purchased by Montenegro Airlines in the fall of 1996.
The First Flight
On May 7, 1997, at exactly 10.30 a.m., an ™air-lift¥ was established between Montenegro and Europe. The aircraft ™Lov en¥ landed in Bari, Italy. The historical and commercial ties between these two countries were the reasons why we decided to choose Italy as our first destination.
The Second Aircraft
The Company purchased its second Fokker 28Mk 4000 in July 1998, which provided conditions for further market penetration and for the creation of a proper fleet.
Montenegro Airlines Again in the Sky
At the beginning of 1999, Montenegro Airlines was forced to stop its activities due to the NATO bombings. The sanctions imposed to Montenegro Airlines were abolished on October 23, 1999. Resumed operations were marked by opening a very significant destination, i.e. Frankfurt, which has remained one of our most frequent destinations so far. Flights to: Zurich, Ljubljana, Skoplje, Istanbul and Budapest started at the end of the same year.
Innovation of the Fleet Ò Substitution of Fokker 28Mk 4000 and Supply of Fokker 100
Activities relating to the innovation of the fleet started in the year 2000. By purchasing new aircraft of type Fokker 100, Montenegro Airlines developed into a modern airline company.
These planes represent the highest range of international aircraft technology. They are equipped with navigation systems that enable automatic landing even on conditions of visibility zero. Rolls Royce engines, which satisfy the most exacting noise criteria, enable Montenegro Airlines to land on all airports of the world.
The First Fokker 100
landed on Podgorica airport in June 2000.
The Second Aircraft
was purchased in May 2001.
The Third Fokker 100
became property of Montenegro Airlines in June 2002.
The Fourth Fokker 100
became part of our fleet at the beginning of 2003.
IATA Membership
After 3 years of charter operations, our Company became member of the International Association for Air Traffic (IATA) in April 2000. This was a precondition that enabled us to obtain licenses for regular air traffic, to join the Amadeus System and to establish close cooperation with other airline companies.
ÏAmadeus System UserÓ
On March 5, 2003, Montenegro Airlines became user of the ÏAmadeus SystemÓ, the leading international reservation system, together with 130 other airline companies in the world. Through the Amadeus System, our timetable and passenger tickets became accessible to passengers all over the world. Moreover, passenger tickets of other companies, with which we have concluded agreements, can be purchased in our ticket offices.
Our Pilots Receive the IIIA Certificate
At the beginning of 2004, Montenegro Airlines' pilots were the first in the region to get the IIIA Certificate. This means that they were trained to land under conditions of reduced visibility, even in case of visibility of 200 m only.
The Millionth Passenger
On the basis of statistic data and data from the Amadeus System, on July 2, 2004, we awarded our millionth passenger with a seven-days travel arrangement to Paris for two persons. The figure of one million relates to the period from the beginning of flight operations.
