Nine O'Clock
Nine O'Clock
Mission Statement
Since its very first day of activity, the daily "Nine O'Clock" has intended to always respect its readers through fair and strictly unbiased information. We have always observed our commitment made at that time, to be always faithful towards our readers and not towards the various groups of interest who might have supported us. Today, after 12 years of activity, we reassure you that we are at your disposal and we are honoured with the fact that you are among our readers. Thank you.

Who we are?
In 1991 a group of enthusiastic Romanian journalists specialised in foreign politics had the initiative to release on the Romanian media market a daily newspaper in English - "Nine O'Clock" - which has remained to this day, after 12 years of activity, the first and only publication of its kind,.

"Why did we choose the name of "Nine O'Clock, our readers quite often ask us. The answer is very simple: because we intended "NINE O'CLOCK" to be the daily read in the office at 9.00 h. in the morning by the diplomats, businessmen, bankers, a daily which was expected to offer to them, while they were drinking their morning cup of coffee, the latest fresh and credible items of news about events taking place in Romania.

Since the very beginning "Nine O'Clock" was meant to be a bridge between Romania, at that time the scene of profound political, economic and social change, and the democratic West, and respectively the international institutions our country intended to accede to. Twelve years later, "Nine O'Clock" is a necessary bridge between the Romanian realities and the foreign countries, Romania's interface with the outside world. It is not us who says this, this is the unanimous opinion of our readers, and this assertion can be easily checked upon when someone peruses the collection of our daily which has gathered along the years, numerous messages of appreciation or suggestions from our readers.

Last but not least, when we chose English as the publication language of this daily, we made the decision to implicitly "borrow" their manners and the sense of English "fair play", and we consider that the credibility and the special place that we have won in the 12 years of activity in the Romanian media landscape, represent the most eloquent evidence in this sense.

We are aware of the fact that we would have never succeeded to reach this 12th anniversary and the release of the issue no. 3000 without your interest in us, an interest which further obliges us to remain faithful to the principles assumed when we first embarked along this road, in 1991, when we made the decision that equidistance and the respect for the readers should be our main guideline. Consequently "There's always room for more" has constantly remained a concern for us.

How we started
Upon its launching, "Nine O'Clock" had only four pages. The beginning was not easy: however, the shortage of the necessary technical equipment was overcome through the enthusiasm of a team of young and dynamic journalists. During these 12 years the daily has constantly developed becoming a general information daily in the real meaning of the word, with eight pages dedicated to the political, social and cultural items of news and another eight pages to the economic-financial information.

The daily "Nine O'Clock" has laid the bases of the press holding known as "Nine O'Clock Publications." Two other publications of the holding appeared in 1996: "Romanian Economic Daily" an economic information daily and "Bucarest Matin" a general information daily in French. Today, the "Romanian Economic Daily" has become integral part of the daily "Nine O'Clock" under the name of "Business&Finance" while "Bucarest Matin" has become the weekly "Bucarest Hebdo." The most recent publication of our holding, the Italian weekly "Sette Giorni" appeared in the year 2000.

Supplements
Starting the year 2000, "Nine O'Clock" has published special supplements dedicated to a number of important events, such as the National Days of various States, the conferences with a large international participation hosted by Romania, the visits paid to Romania by some important personalities on the international political scene such as Pope John Paul II, the US President, George W. Bush.

Other Products
Starting 1996, our media group has published the first bilingual Romanian and English edition of the "Restaurants' Guide" which has already reached its sixth edition.

The first variant of "Nine O'Clock" web edition was launched in 1997. Three years later we were present on the Internet with another formula, while on October 1, 2003, our web has also been relaunched in a new form, this decision being inspired by the desire to facilitate the access of our readers, who cannot enjoy the "physical touch" of a print edition, to fresh, unbiased information. This latest variant of the web has coincided with the relaunching of the paper in a new graphic format.

Events
Since it first emerged on the Romanian media market, "Nine O'Clock" laid the bases of a fine tradition to reward the Romanian or foreign personalities in various domains - politics, diplomacy, investments, sports and so on - who have always stood by us or who asserted themselves through remarkable successes in their fields of activity. The desire to symbolically reward the achievements of these personalities, achievements which implicitly belong to Romania as well, gave birth to the Nine O'Clock - "Man of the Year" Awards, an event organised on an annual basis. We cannot but mention here the awards ceremony as well, which take place in a festive atmosphere, every year, on the celebration of our paper anniversary, of the Fidelity Diplomas which we offer to our readers and partners, those personalities or companies who have constantly stood by us.

Target
"Nine O'Clock" primary target-public is represented by the foreign residents living on the territory of Romania, be they either businessmen, or personnel of diplomatic missions accredited in Bucharest, residents or tourists. A secondary public is formed by the English speaking Romanians and the Romanian businessmen, politicians, men of culture, students and so on.

Distribution
"Nine O'Clock" is distributed by RODIPET and POSTA ROMANA in all the towns with more than 100,000 inhabitants on the basis of subscriptions or direct sales. The subscriptions are made at our headquarters.

The daily can be also found on board all the airlines that operate in Romania, in hotels and restaurants, the Chambers of Commerce, in the state institutions and universities
