Rengah Sarawak
About Rengah Sarawak
Rengah Sarawak is the Penan language for Sarawak News

This web site contains stories and information about and related to the various struggles in Sarawak, one of the two East Malaysian States in the northern part of the island of Borneo.

Rengah Sarawak is the result of a combined efforts by several Sarawak non-government organisations (NGOs) and communities to bring views and information on and about the people's struggles directly to the internet community and beyond.

We aim to give you an accurate and alternative picture of what is happening here - mainly stories from and about communities, as well as those from NGOs.

About this site
Just as the very first "editorial" of Rengah Sarawak said it would be, we have reached that new chapter whereby we can now rise to make Rengah Sarawak a much better site for what it was originally intended.

Yes, we can now rise to take charge from wherever we are and yet still be very much in-charge of this website. We will have none, if not very much less excuse to not have this site updated more regularly from now onwards.

With the new Web Publishing Engine (WPE) technology, the team of people working together to make this website a reality will be able to manage the website more directly and independently too.

Of course this would not have been possible without the enthusiastic and undivided support, encouragement, dedication, commitment, determination and professionalism shown by so many and yet so few.

The team of activists who are also very skillful and knowledgeable professionals at Toy Satellite need no mentioning here for they know we are indebted to them. They have been very consistently supporting and promoting the works of NGOs, and most of all, their support for the people's struggles. There are no words to extend our appreciation but then again for a bunch of concerned people, they would be too modest to accept any appreciation. But nonetheless, we want you all to know that you are all special.

Financial support from the UK-based World Association for Christian Communication (WACC) make this technology-driven capability a reality. Among others, WACC is pursuing active support to empower groups and communities worldwide.

Perhaps more in need of acknowledgement should be directed to the indigenous communities struggling to protect their rights amid vigorous and constant barrage of attack from the powerful State, be that from the Federal, State, and or local authorities, and their accomplished private profiteers.

His/herstory has shown all over the world that the indigenous communities, must continue to learn and equip themselves fast and effectively to exert their rightly positions as a significant force to be reckon with.

Recognising the critical elements of empowerment, Rengah Sarawak is now technically in a much better position to fulfill its role as the channel for NGOs and communities to responsibly air their voice and speak their mind.

Added to this improved site is the ability of visitors to interact and provide more direct feedback. We hope for visitors' contribution too, whereby we welcome comments, feedback - good and or bad, sweet and or sour and or anything in between - and even posting us articles, stories, photos etc to enrich this website.

We hope you like the changes that are reflected in the new website. We have taken out the sales of the "arts and craft" section as we are unable to meet the few requests. Our severely restricted resources just do not allow us to do justice to what is obviously an important aspect of support to communities.

On this aspect, we have provided links to a website in the USA whereby the sales of handicrafts have been operating for quite some time now. Of course we can direct interested visitors to appropriate contacts for follow-up, if need to. Just write to the webmaster and we will try our best.

We thank you in advance and look forward to your participation. We certainly look forward to us providing more news and views for the world to see and hear about Sarawak that would otherwise be concealed by the authorities, businesses and their mainstream media allies.

At best, we hope to provide a counter balance to the situation and work towards a win-win situation for all.
