History The Creation of RAL

PT. Riau Airlines (RAL) is the only airline company in Indonesia owned by regional government. Established in 2002, with 100% stake hold by the Government of Riau Province itself and the Government of Regency/Cities within (Formerly, Riau Archipelago was unified with Riau Province).

In the early commencement, RAL•s focus was to become the air link which connecting regions in Riau that already equipped with airport infrastructure, both in Riau mainland or Riau Archipelago.

In line with its growth and market trend, RAL introduced new flight destination which link cities in Riau Province to other cities outside, even expanded to international route, that is, Malaysia.

PT. Riau Airlines was commenced on March 5, 2002 by the issuance of Regional Regulation, known as "PERDA", no. 5 article no. 7 on the establishment of PT. Riau Airlines by the House of Representave (DPRD) Riau Province.

On March 12, 2002, PT. Riau Airlines was officially established by the signing of Deed number 14 by the former Governor of Riau Province, Mr. Saleh Djasit, SH., examined by the Notary, Mr. Asman Yunus, SH. In which Regional Secretary, Mr. Arsyad Rahim, BA., was appointed General Commissioner PT. Riau Airlines, whereas Assistant for Economic Development Research and People•s Welfare, Mr. H. Asparaini Rasyad, Drs., and Mr. Wan Galib, were appointed Commissioners. Managing Director•s position was entrusted to Mr. Yunus Bachri.

On April 2,2004, the General Assembly of Shareholder (RUPS) was performed initially. There was shifting on board of commissioner formation. In line with Mr. Arsyad Rahim, BA., retirement as Regional Secretary, his position was replaced by Mr. Mambang Mit, Drs., as General Commissioner. The changes also happened in top management level, by the appointment of Mr. Heru Nurhayadi, Ir., MM, MBA., as its Director.

The Aims and Purpose of RAL Establishment

The main purpose of establishing PT. Riau Airlines as a Regional Company Owned by the Government (BUMD) is to facilitate transportation course amongst Regency/Cities, and to support the acceleration of region's economic growth, in order to achieve Riau Vision 2020 introduced by Mr. Saleh Djasit on the Guidelines of Riau Province Development.

Riau Vision 2020 is stated as follows:
"Establishing Riau Province as the Center for Economic Growth an Malay Culture, within the environment of religious and prosperous society in South East Asia by year 2020"

Provincial Government and Riau society's expectation is in having an air transportation company which is reliable, professional and having its based on Pekanbaru. Later, this airline will conduct flight services to all regency's capital and cities in Riau Province. It is even feasible for RAL airplane to layover in district's capital using specific airplane which is apt to local airport condition. By means of that, the seclusion will diminish gradually and this will automatically result in the increase of economic growth. Hence, people's welfare and development of Riau province area will be multiplied.
