The Syria Flag was officially adopted on May 29, 1980. The flag of Syria includes the Pan-Arab colors of green, red, white and black, which can also be seen on the flags of Yemen, Egypt, Sudan, and Iraq. The green color of the Syria flag is considered to be the color of the Fatimids, white is considered to be the color of the Umayyads, black is considered to be the color of Abbasids and red is considered to be the color of the blood of martyrs. On the flag of Syria there are two small green five-pointed stars in a horizontal line centered in the white stripe. The two stars represent Egypt and Syria, the two participating nations in the United Arab Republic.
